Hi, I’m Shemiah. I help couples and individuals make changes that stick.
As a licensed relationship therapist, my life’s work is about teaching individuals and couples how to cultivate relationships and build marriages. Relationships are hard! Many people don’t know how to enhance their existing marriages and relationships. And that’s where I come in.
I’m half homegirl, half professional — and totally relatable. I believe in a fun, engaging, and fulfilling therapy process. We connect, we vibe. And we go to work.
A little about me: I’m a Chicagoan — southsider to be specific. I’m also an entrepreneur, best- selling author, and wife to an amazing Black King. (And yes — he treats me like a Queen!)
I’ve always been intrigued by communication. As an introverted child, I was an avid reader and a keen observer of behavior. I eventually realized that conflicts occurred when there was a misunderstanding that stemmed from a lack of communication.
After obtaining a Bachelor’s in Business as well as a Master’s degree, I worked various corporate jobs. But they simply weren’t my life’s calling, nor did I feel truly accepted in those careers. I wanted to serve my Black Sisters and Brothers, and define professionalism on my own terms.
I became licensed in two states (and counting!). In 2021, I started my practice Profound Peace Psychotherapy Collective — where a group of diverse, wonderful professionals are doing life-changing work treating clinical issues through a relational lens.
Communication won’t solve every problem, of course. However, it's the most useful tool in any type of relationship — and I teach couples and individuals how to use it to enhance their marriages, relationships, and lives. Through ongoing conversations and online campaigns, I provide expert guidance, input, and direction that motivated individuals can apply in their own lives to experience immediate shifts in their relationships.
Ready to work on communication, reconnection, and new beginnings? I got you! I consider it an honor to serve my community and beyond.
While I specialize in these areas, I also work with clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, stress and trauma.
I primarily work with adults who want to work through unhealthy patterns and behaviors or past trauma within their family of origin. I offer support for individual clients to work through family issues, resolve conflict and have difficult conversations.
I am an affirming therapist and I work with sexually and gender diverse (same sex and heterosexual) couples in dating and long-term relationships as well as providing pre-marital and marriage counseling. I have completed Level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and use this approach in my work with couples.
